WWE Backlash 2020 takes place on Sunday, June 14th.
it follows on from what I felt was a rather lacklustre NXT Takeover show. In saying that it was a slightly profitable show thanks to our bet of Adam Cole to win.
If you had listened to the podcast you would have made a lot more money as I also backed Keith Lee to win. I’m not really sure what changed between the podcast and me writing the tips but I just decided to play it safe on that one and stay away.
Backlash features the “Greatest Wrestling Match Ever” with Orton vs Edge which I believe has already been taped. It also features Asuka vs Nia Jax, and Drew McfINtyre vs Bobby Lashley.
Let’s get right in to the betting of WWE Backlash 2020.
Randy Orton (-200) vs Edge (+125): There’s theories abound that this match tagline is just a joke and that Orton will hit an RKO in seconds and get the pin or something but I don’t believe that’s the case. Dave Meltzer said that it was taped last week and that it’s meant to be a very good match. Edge won the first one and it makes sense that Orton would win this one based on that. 1u on Orton
Asuka (-775) vs Nia Jax (+400): Asuka just lost to Charlotte on WWE Monday Night RAW. I think that is a good indicator she won’t be losing this one. Yet there is something about this match that has me wondering if Nia Jax can possibly win. I mean Asuka getting the title was based on Beckys pregnancy so maybe they want to switch the title to Nia. However Charlotte may be challenging Asuka as well at Summerslam. This is one where I feel Asuka deserves to be the favourite, but Nia Jax is worth a 1/4u bet.
Braun Strowman (-1250) vs Morrison/Miz (+550): I assume it is whoever gets the pin between Morrison and Miz that would win the title based on the 3 on 1 handicap match Strowman faced last time. I can’t really see them taking the title off Strowman but stranger things have happened.
Jeff Hardy (-215) vs Sheamus (+150): Sheamus has been booked very strongly since his return. He did lose to Jeff Hardy and Daniel Bryan however has won all his other matches. Jeff has been booked fairly strong lately too with three wins since he returned over Corbin, Cesaro and of course Sheamus. Typical wrestling booking would have Jeff going over here but don’t forget why Jeff was out initially and that with all the DUI stuff in storyline, he may be paying his dues. I like 1u on Sheamus.
Drew McIntyre (-900) vs Bobby Lashley (+500): Keith Lee won last week and I believe real world going-ons may have been a factor in that. However I can’t see Drew losing the title here. I have heard rumours they want Lashley vs Lesnar at Summerslam however.
It does seem that if you are a face that is being newly pushed in WWE and have won a title that you lose it very shortly after. There’s certainly enough reasons to back Lashley here. Following on from the news that Bruce Prichard is in charge, and Drew is of course a Heyman pet project, I advise 1/4u on Bobby Lashley to win.
Please note that the odds often change soon after I post them (a good reason to subscribe to my e-mails and podcast) due to the sportsbooks paying attention and/or people placing bets.
