NJPW G1 Climax 30: Night 1 & 2 Betting Tips

avatar Written By Graeme on September 16, 2020

The NJPW G1 Climax starts on Sunday, September 20th. There will be matches on one night from Block A, matches on the next night except on a few occasions from Block B, and then a couple of day break prior to repeating that. Don’t worry I have the full schedule below.

It’s going to be an absolutely fantastic event and I highly recommend you subscribe to NJPW World for it.

I am not 100% on this but I believe the events will air live ONLY in Japanese and then there will be a replay added with English commentary.

Not 100% sure when exactly the replay will be added. I heard someone say it iwill be added shortly after with someone else saying the next day so we’ll see how it goes. I’ll likely watch it in Japanese.

How I will handle NJPW G1 Climax Betting Tips is I will roll two nights into one post. I will go through every match and let you know if I see anything worth betting. Then after both nights are finished, I’ll do another post covering the next 2 nights.

NJPW G1 Climax Night 1 Betting Odds:

  • Will Ospreay (-500) vs Yujiro Takahashi (+300)
  • Taichi (-112) vs Jeff Cobb (-125)
  • Tomohiro Ishii (-155) vs Minoru Suzuki (+110)
  • Jay White (-150) vs Shingo Takagi (+108)
  • Kazuchika Okada (-118) vs Kota Ibushi (-118)

NJPW G1 Climax Night 1 Betting Tips:

A huge match to start the event with Okada vs Ibushi. Both are the two favourites to win Block A. Okada hasn’t had the best year losing to Naito at Wrestle Kingdom and losing in the New Japan Cup as well. Then he lost at KOPW2020. It hasn’t been a good run for Okada. Right now I think Okada is winning A block. I think Okada loses this one to spur him on for future matches. I did see a good theory of Okada beating Ibushi, Ibushi beating White and White beating Okada so they are all even and going up against each other. I was very tempted to bet Okada here but I dig that story witht those three strong competitors and will not bet.

Jay White vs Shingo Takagi sees value on White I think. So great seeing Switchblade make it here and that was exciting. He’s got to be one of the favourites to take Block A and I would be shocked if Shingo Takagi got the win here. I just think this is a big undertaking and am going with 1/2u on Jay White to win.

If you are looking for upsets, Will Ospreay vs Yujiro Takahashi is a decent place to start. I think Ospreay is going to struggle in this tournament. Alas I don’t think it’s going to happen here. I mean Takahashi said it himself – his career is in the toilet. To say Takahashi winning is an upset would be a huge understatement. No bet.

Taichi vs Jeff Cobb – looks like Cobb signed an NJPW Contract. I think that’s a great sign for him winning here. Just some nice loyalty there. This is the rubber match between the two. I’m pretty pumped for Taichi vs Suzuki. This one I think Cobb takes it and will go with 1/4u on Jeff Cobb to win.

The last match is Tomohiro Ishii vs Minoru Suzuki. Ishi will no doubt get the usual 4-5 or 5-4 record so it’s a case of figuring out who he beats and who he loses to. That’s pretty much what he is there for. After Suzuki was left out last year he’s got a lot to prove. Suzuki is probably going to be a 4-5 or 5-4 guy as well I’d say Taichi beats Suzuki for example – you really have to look ahead at them all. I think Ishii takes this one and will go with 1/4u on Ishii.

NJPW G1 Climax Night 2 Betting Odds:

  • Juice Robinson (-770) vs Yoshi-Hashi (+400)
  • SANADA (-345) vs Toru Yano (+225)
  • KENTA (-500) vs Hirooki Goto (+300)
  • EVIL (-400) vs Zack Sabre Jr. (+250)
  • Tetsuya Naito (-150) vs Hiroshi Tanahashi (+108)

NJPW G1 Climax Night 2 Betting Tips:

Odds wise it’s a lot heavier than Night 1 and makes it very tricky.

Gedo likes to book upsets early on so there’s a good chance of someone causing a big upset here.

EVIL is the 2nd favourite to win Block B next to SANADA. I just can’t see it though. Can’t see them having him win both the New Japan Cup and this tournament. Zack is slightly tempting there but I can’t pull the trigger. He does have a long story with Tanahashi and with them fighting at the end it could be interesting but I don’t see it.

Goto beat KENTA at Wrestle Kingdom 14 of course. I think he will be a whipping boy here and KENTA crushes him.

The only bet I am going to make for Night 2 is in Tetsuya Naito vs Hiroshi Tanahashi. I’m not factoring in Tanahashi for this tournament at all honestly. I think he goes a different route with Ibushi, Zack & Taichi. I’m going to do 1/4u on Naito to win. He’s 6-7-1 against Ace and I think we get it evened up here.

That’s it for now. Night 1 & 2 will really help tell stories going forward and we should be able to get some better bets.
