I hope everyone enjoyed Wrestlemania. Betting tips wise, Night 2 was excellent with our +800 winner in Randy Orton winning, our Apollo Crews play winning, AND our big max units bet on Roman Reigns winning.
As we wait matches and odds for the next show, Wrestlemania: Backlash, the online sportsbook BetOnline has offered up betting futures – you can bet on who the champion will be at the end of 2021 for four different titles.
I thought I would go through each one, list the odds and analyze it a bit. If you’re looking to bet it yourself – one thing I do is look at the history of the titles and who was the end of year champion going back the last few years – try and figure out why – and then also do a big process of elimination on each one until I am left with a few viable candidates.
Let’s see what we got:
We could go with the easy theory of Roman Reigns losing the title at Summerslam. Seems a strong possibility doesn’t it. A lot of possible contenders. What’s interesting is when someone wins the Universal Championship at Summerslam, they don’t have the best history.
If you win the Universal title at Summerslam you are cursed.
– 2016. Finn wins it. Gives it up next day on RAW due to injury.
– 2018: Reigns wins it. Gives it up 2 months later due to Leukemia.
– 2019: Seth wins it. Worst of all – gets put right into a feud with the Fiend. Loses it to him a couple months later.
– 2020: The Fiend wins it. Loses it exactly one week later at Payback.
So instead of who I think will win it at Summerslam, we should be looking at who wins it AFTER that. They are likely to hold onto it too. Roman could win it back of course. It’s hard to predict who will be a heel and who will be a face during that time. I do think 2nd favourite Seth Rollins is not the worst bet at all – especially if they want to go in the direction of Roman vs Seth.

Looking at the last few years – they usually do a post-Summerslam switch. Aroound September-November. AJ won it November 7th, 2017 then held it until November 13th, 2018 for example.
When someone wins it at Mania they are unlikely to last the year with it so based on that it is easy to rule Lashley out. I don’t hate Drew McIntyre to win it but at those odds I’m not risking it. Sheamus is someone who WWE like and it wouldn’t surprise me if they go back to him. I’d probably risk it on him.

Looking at the history of this one if you win it around April you’re going to lose it before the end of the year. So taking Bianca out of the mix seems easy enough. While they might want to wait for Wrestlemania, I think a +400 bet on Becky Lynch is fine to do. Bayley has been a long transitional champ the last two times so Bayl is a good contender as well. Either of the two makes sense for a bet.
