WWE Battleground 2013 is nearly here and hopefully it has a happier ending than last month’s WWE Night of Champions. Daniel Bryan seemingly won the title at that show, but was then stripped the next night due to shady dealings of the Authority who claimed Daniel Bryan paid off the ref. (Or something.) This show is headlined by the rematch between the two that should crown an undisputed WWE champion once and for all.
With John Cena out with an injury this show features an interesting undercard. Alberto Del Rio defends the World Heavyweight title against Rob Van Dam, CM Punk faces Paul Heyman’s new guy Ryback and the Rhodes brothers finally get their shot at the Shield. We also will see AJ defend her title against Brie Bella, Dolph Ziggler facing Damien Sandow, Bray Wyatt vs. Kofi Kingston and Curtis Axel defending the Intercontinental title against R-Truth.

It is definitely an interesting show with the potential for some great matches and the betting odds tell an interesting story. Let’s take a closer look and see if we can find some value on this show.
Randy Orton (-600) vs. Daniel Bryan (+400): I rarely use this space to complain about WWE’s storytelling, but they really blew it last time having Bryan win and then taking it away. If he won here it wouldn’t really make any sense and would probably make Randy Orton look weaker than ever. I can’t imagine Bryan winning this one, but I will feel sad if he doesn’t. Not great storytelling and I won’t be betting this one.
Alberto Del Rio (-320) vs. Rob Van Dam (+240): WWE will continue to try and make Alberto Del Rio happen here despite the fact that he doesn’t quite click with the crowd. Rob Van Dam does click with the crowd, but he’s in that Chris Jericho phase of his career where he just loses to young guys. That’s Del Rio here. I hate the odds, but easy bet on Del Rio.
CM Punk (-900) vs. Ryback (+500): The Punk vs. Heyman story continues this month with this match. On paper Punk should easily win this one, but where would the story go from there? Heyman costing Punk the match in some way to set up something at Hell In A Cell makes sense here. I’m calling upset. Bet Ryback.
AJ Lee (-1200) vs. Brie Bella (+600): Not only is AJ a better wrestler than Brie Bella, she is also more popular. Even if Brie is on E! I just can’t see them making the switch here. Skip it.
Goldust & Cody Rhodes (-11000) vs. Reigns & Rollins (+3000): Sometimes the odds make analyzing a match pointless. This is one of those matches.
Bray Wyatt (-1500) vs.Kofi Kingston (+700): And so is this. Bray Wyatt is a monster and Kofi Kingston is his food.
Dolph Ziggler (-190) vs. Damien Sandow (+150): Pretty sure this is the pre-show kickoff match which usually favors the good guy. Easy bet on Ziggler.
Curtis Axel (-430) vs. R-Truth (+310): As sad as Curtis Axel is, I just can’t imagine him losing to R-Truth.
