WWE Extreme Rules 2020 takes place this Sunday, July 19th.
It’s a notable PPV for small upsets over the years. Last year for example The New Day and AJ Styles were both upset wins.
The year prior, we saw an upset as The B Team won over Matt Hardy and Bray. Owens defeating Strowman was also an upset, as was Lashley and Carmella winning.
Going back even further, Samoa Joe at Extreme Rules 2017 was a +300 dog as he became the #1 contender.
Of course that was then and this is now. Everything is different thanks to COVID-19. What makes it even more disappointing is tag matches have seen upsets at every Extreme Rules show, and there isn’t even a tag match on this card!
Oh well. Let’s see where to bet Extreme Rules then get into the betting odds:
Bray Wyatt (-215) vs Braun Strowman (+150): This one is non-title meaning Bray Wyatt is the likely winner. Meltzer said in the Observer that he expects this “Wyatt Swamp Fight” match to lead to a Summerslam matchup between the two. Makes sense. Note that Bray is like -250 at 888 however is -150 at BetOnline. I wouldn’t touch him at the 888 price but at -150 is worth a 1/4u. However Bray could lose here and then bring back The Fiend at Summerslam to win. If you want to bet on Braun, he is +150 at 888 Sports.
Jeff Hardy (-910) vs Sheamus (+450): I went with a maximum unit bet on Sheamus at Backlash and it paid off. Hard not to see Jeff winning here surely. No bet although Sheamus as an underdog play is tempting.
Asuka (-345) vs Sasha Banks (+225): Sasha is attempting to become a double champion alongside Bayley. As far as I know the plan is for Asuka to hold onto it until Charlotte is back. In saying that, “plans change pal”. I guess it’s based on her surgery. I can see them being in a holding pattern until they see if she’s back or not. Asuka should win, no bet.
Seth Rollins (-230) vs Rey Mysterio (+160): So Rey Mysterio is currently not under contract with WWE apparently. This match has me very conflicted because:
1: As a fan, I think Seth Rollins losing would be better. I can just picture him with an eye patch etc and I think he’d be freaking awesome and really make it work.
2: As the WWE, Rey losing would make more sense. He has a mask so he can cover up his busted eye. Hell if he is out of contract they don’t even need him anymore etc and it is a way to write him off.
So no bet for me but I will be cheering on Rey to rip out Seths eyeball as in terms of entertainment, that is the better option.
Bayley (-625) vs Nikki Cross (+350): I can’t see any reasoning for Nikki to win here. Maybe they want to mix it up or something. Maybe they want to have Sasha cost her the title accidently or on purpose. Either way there’s not enough here to justify a bet.
Apollo Crews (-455) vs MVP (+280): MVP has been pretty great since being back. It’s possible with the low ratings on RAW that WWE want to mix things up. Apollo is likely a Heyman project. I think there’s enough to justify a bet on the underdog here. 1/2u bet on MVP to win at +280 odds.
Drew McIntyre (-2000) vs Dolph Ziggler (+700): 1.5m ratings across the hourly board? The Drew experiment is over. Time to give the title to Dolph. Man I would love to see that as people would lose their minds. Can’t really see it though.
